sing along

Filed under: Life — by morethanfine on September 26, 2008 @ 9:41 pm

the other day my 10yo started learning the intro to tom petty’s free fallin’.  so we’ve been playing it in the car as we drive around our (what feels like) million miles a week.  my 5yo is getting into it and is singing along with us.  the chorus is the most fun because we sing it at the top of our lungs, as it should be.

but now i’m wondering about the vampires walkin’ through the valley moving west down ventura boulevard…

  1. I’d heard somewhere that line was a reference to looking at teenagers dressing in “gothic” fashion on their way to concerts…

  2. There was also some thought that when Anne Rice wrote “Interview with a Vampire” that a reading circle met at a club on Ventura.

  3. This song always makes me think about Tom Cruise in Jerry Maguire singing this song at the top of his lungs as he drives down some West Texas road. Love it!
