i don’t belong here
If the slick women’s magazine that comes to my mailbox every month is any indication, I don’t really fit in here. It’s mostly advertising, even some of the “articles” are advertising something. One of the articles this month is titled, “Are You Managing the Maid or is the Maid Managing YOU?” I don’t care if people have maids, but if this is representative of a problem in my area then I’m out of place.
There are many ads for different cosmetic procedures - skin, hair, dental, even plastic surgery. That’s probably also representative of my area, but not me. I’m not saying I’m content with my body but I’m not very willing to go under the knife to fix it. The ad for the spa for little girls bothers me. The focus on outward beauty starts young.
Most days I’d just throw the magazine directly in the trash can. I’m just in a mood today. Have a nice day.
I’ll bet that’s the same slick magazine that comes to my mailbox, too! It just irks me - especially all the plastic surgery ads.
But, it seems that quite a few of the next generation (those with toddlers/babies) have maids. I was pretty shocked when the group of young moms that I’m “Mentor Mom” for all piped up to compare notes on maid services. Wow. I’ve never had a maid service. Really I don’t especially want one. I’m one of those types that would have to clean so the maid could come. =-)
Oh the times…they are a changin’.

I wouldn’t want a maid, either. I am already neurotic about strangers working in my house and to have a regular appointment with someone would probably send me over the edge - I guess after awhile they wouldn’t be a stranger anymore, lol. I still think it would drive me nuts, though.
And my children are old enough now to help. Today I was training one of them on an intensive cleaning of their bathroom. If I got a maid, I’d be depriving them of that. Heh heh…
I can’t quite imagine paying someone unless I was physically unable to do it - I can think of too many things I’d rather do with the money, like buy books. It’s not that I enjoy cleaning house or do very well at it, though.
Maybe having a maid is becoming another status symbol - a way of Jonesing nowadays?
But hey, to each her own.

I’m with you, sister. I would MUCH rather spend my money on a good book. The dust will be there tomorrow and besides, if it’s up high enough and I can’t see it, doesn’t that make it nonexistent? Well, it does in my little world. Thank goodness I’m short! =-)
