I need chocolate.
That’s all there is to it.

Took a little road trip to Wichita Falls on Friday for a seminar - Home School for High School. I really should have attended this last spring, because we’re about through our freshman year of high school. It was an informative seminar and the binder will be very helpful for putting together a transcript and preparing for college. When I was this age, college was not even on my radar yet.
It feels like a pretty big burden, this high school thing. It’s all new territory and I don’t want to mess up. It’s a little scary - a little exciting. There will be much prayer while navigating this adventure. Deep breath….
My kids are very reluctant to try new things. The oldest is especially resitant and that attitude flows down to the others sometimes. Today the oldest is camping and therefore not home to show his attitude so I decided to attempt to sway the younger three to try a BLT. I told them that I make a mean BLT, best in the world, and asked them if they would just *try* it. They said they would, so I made one BLT, quartered and served it. The older two thought it was good, the 4yo said “No salad!” and pulled off the lettuce and tomato. 2 out of 3 is not bad. The older 2 said they wanted more so I made another sandwich and they each ate half. This time I remembered the salt and pepper on the tomatoes and they raved about that.
Sounds like we have another lunch item for our repertoire. And if big brother doesn’t want to try it he can eat a PB&J.

THE UNCRITICAL TEMPER
“Judge not, that ye be not judged.” Matthew 7:1
Jesus says regarding judging - Don’t. The average Christian is the most penetratingly critical individual. Criticism is a part of the ordinary faculty of man; but in the spiritual domain nothing is accomplished by criticism. The effect of criticism is a dividing up of the powers of the one criticized; the Holy Ghost is the only One in the true position to criticize, He alone is able to show what is wrong without hurting and wounding. It is impossible to enter into communion with God when you are in a critical temper; it makes you hard and vindictive and cruel, and leaves you with the flattering unction that you are a superior person. Jesus says, as a disciple cultivate the uncritical temper. It is not done once and for all. Beware of anything that puts you in the superior person’s place.
There is no getting away from the penetration of Jesus. If I see the mote in your eye, it means I have a beam in my own. Every wrong thing that I see in you, God locates in me. Every time I judge, I condemn myself (see Romans 2:17-20). Stop having a measuring rod for other people. There is always one fact more in every man’s case about which we know nothing. The first thing God does is to give us a spiritual spring-cleaning; there is no possibility of pride left in a man after that. I have never met the man I could despair of after discerning what lies in me apart from the grace of God.
I don’t know if this is brand new, or if I’m just slow to discover it, but Library Elf has made managing our library cards so much easier. At our town’s library, 5 of us have our own card. Then we also have a card at 3 libraries in surrounding towns – that’s 8 library cards at 4 libraries. Library elf lets you enter all your library card numbers and PINs and you can look at all your checked out items in ONE PLACE I can also set up email reminders for due dates, holds, and overdue items - many options! And it’s free!
This is great for people that have multiple libraries they use, or just have several cards at one library. I thought I was spoiled with online catalogs and reserving online… but this is spectacular! I know I’m spoiled by the library that has a drive up window where I can pick up my holds!
